※1980年代にマクドネル・ダグラス・ヘリコプター・システムズ社（現ボーイング・ミリタリー・エアクラフト社グローバル・ストライク部門）はAH-64Aの海軍のヴァージョンを海兵隊と海軍に提案。着陸装置、改善されたアヴィオニクスや兵装の変更なども検討。1981年9月に海兵隊は興味があったため、艦上動作試験を含めAH-64の2週間の評価を行うも、結局海兵隊はAH-1を使用し続けた。2013年に陸軍第36戦闘航空旅団のAH-64Dが海軍艦船上でさまざまな試験を行っている
